A couple of years ago, the first ever question I posed to Mr. Coni Atherr was: If I want to have a race like the ones you produce in Switzerland, what do I have to do? His answer: “First of all, you have to be in very good terms with the local police”. That, being true, excludes me personally from any such activity in quite a few places around the world. But no doubt is a great piece of advice to whoever wants to step into the risky business of organizing a skating event, and has no file deposited in the local constable station. Before that, perhaps, it’s better to start collecting the necessary resources, then it might be a good idea to have at least one skating club in our area. How do I create it? And when I reach the amount of thousands of skaters in my area, what if I want to have the best skating venue in the whole planet?
Due to my personal experience, I know that as soon as the skating virus attacks them, a lot of people actually start thinking about all of the above, but thanks to the lack of published detailed information about all these subjects, they’re not able to retrieve enough data to even start planning. Or worse, when their good intentions not matched with knowledge in fact cause damage to the sport, for instance when an improperly designed banked track is built… Nevertheless, some intrepid pioneers are able to spawn and manage successful events and great clubs, in spite of all the adversities. So we will ask them their secrets, and in collaboration with BONT, it is our mission to compile all possible data regarding club foundation, event organization and track building. The aim is to offer a useful resource to all those willing to contribute to our wonderful sport’s growth, regardless of the country they live in.
Therefore, we kindly ask anybody with experience, ideas, texts, pictures, draws or whatever may be useful, to send it to us via e-mail >>, through the form below, or to post it in BONT’s forum
